Commissioning & Qualification (C&Q) Lead
Location: Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania (on-site at client facilities)
Employment type: Full-time
About Persperity
Persperity is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business delivering commissioning, qualification and validation (CQV), program management, automation and process engineering to regulated industries including pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, aerospace and defense.
We are small. The people we hire work inside client manufacturing facilities as an extension of their teams, are trusted with real scope early, and are expected to exercise judgment without daily oversight.
The Role
The C&Q Lead is responsible for supporting the execution and delivery of all commissioning and qualification activities for assigned systems and equipment. This role ensures that deliverables are completed on schedule, meet quality expectations, and comply with regulatory and company standards.
Most of our work is replicate equipment. You will usually be adapting a proven documentation package from a previous asset to the next machine rather than writing one from a blank page. Accurately working out what carries over unchanged, what needs revision, and what has to be rewritten because this equipment genuinely differs is critical.
An experienced technical resource will be on site with you, and the Program Lead will be available remotely to advise. However, we need someone who runs their own day and asks sharp questions, not someone who arrives expecting to be told what to do, and not someone who nods along rather than admit they have lost the thread.
What You'll Do
- Author and/or coordinate content development of C&Q deliverables in compliance with approved URS and client SOPs, adapting the package from the previous asset where one exists
- Maintain document deliverables tracker and provide status to team
- Coordinate with the Program Lead to plan and lead C&Q meetings with vendors
- Support system-level commissioning and qualification efforts (FAT, SAT, PQ) across assigned scopes
- Collaborate with engineering, construction, and QA teams to ensure alignment with project milestones
- Support the integration of vendor documentation into Kneat
- Execute test cases on site, recording results clearly and accurately
- Draft deviations and change controls, working with the on-site technical resource and the Program Lead
- Investigate what went wrong when a test fails, and tell the difference between a genuine equipment problem and a test method problem
- Identify and mitigate risks during field execution and escalate issues as needed
- Maintain traceability from URS through testing and documentation closure (e.g., RTM)
- Coordinate walkthroughs, punchlist resolution, and turnover documentation
- Ensure data integrity and good documentation practices in all C&Q activities
What We Need
- 3+ years in commissioning, qualification or validation within a cGMP or comparably regulated manufacturing environment
- Hands-on experience producing commissioning and qualification deliverables, whether authored from scratch or adapted from an existing package. Revising a proven package accurately is what this role does most
- Test execution experience, including drafting deviations and change controls, and seeing a discrepancy through to closure
- Working knowledge of cGMP expectations, data integrity (ALCOA+) and change control
- Experience qualifying automated production equipment: packaging, assembly, filling, molding, robotics or similar. You do not need to have engineered it; you need to have qualified it
- Experience with an electronic validation platform such as Kneat, ValGenesis, Veeva or similar
- Ability to commute to client sites in the Allentown, Bethlehem or Easton area
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
What Helps
- Kneat specifically
- Risk-based qualification under ASTM E2500 or lean validation principles
- Exposure across a full equipment lifecycle on at least one asset including documentation, factory testing, installation, site testing, qualification
- Consulting or contract delivery experience
- Having directed or reviewed the work of other testers
- Military service — we are a veteran-owned business and veterans are strongly encouraged to apply
A bachelor's degree in an engineering, technical or scientific discipline is preferred. Equivalent hands-on experience in a regulated manufacturing environment will be considered in place of a degree. If you came up on the floor rather than through a degree program, please apply.
Where You'll Be Based
This role is on site at client facilities in the Lehigh Valley. We define commutable generously: Lehigh, Northampton, Berks, Bucks, Montgomery, upper Chester, Carbon, Monroe and Schuylkill counties in Pennsylvania, and Warren, Hunterdon, Sussex, Morris and Somerset counties in New Jersey. If you are in Reading, Quakertown, Stroudsburg, Phillipsburg, Clinton or anywhere in that corridor, you are in range.
If you are outside the area but open to 40–60% travel, we will still talk.
Who Does Well Here
Persperity is small and scaling quickly, and the people who thrive have a few things in common.
They are self-sufficient. You will often be the only Persperity person in the building, structuring your own day and deciding what needs escalating. You manage your own performance, evaluate yourself honestly, and tell us early when something needs attention.
They do not stay in a swim lane. You sit closer to our clients than anyone else does, and the next engagement usually starts as something you noticed before anyone wrote a scope of work for it.
They treat variety as the appeal. Every client brings different procedures, platforms and equipment. The people who do well here find that interesting rather than tiresome.
They can move between rooms. On the floor with a technician at 6:00 a.m. and in a review with client leadership at 2:00 p.m. You can adjust how you communicate without adjusting what is true.
Two things sit underneath all of it and are not negotiable. The first is the integrity of the record: you will not sign something you do not believe, and you will not let schedule pressure produce a test record you would not want to explain to an inspector. The second is grit. Capital equipment programs are long, the middle is unglamorous, and you push through it without becoming a difficult person to be around.
And one thing we mean literally: tell us what you want and we will build toward it. Pursuing a degree, a sabbatical, family commitments, adjusting your workload, moving into a new industry. We adapt to that, including the shape your assignments take as we grow. We can only do it if you tell us.
Being Straight With You About The Hard Parts
This is on-site work. Qualification happens where the equipment is. This is not a remote or hybrid role.
You will be the only Persperity person on site. There will be a technical resource alongside you, usually a client employee, and the Program Lead is a phone call away but nobody is managing your day. You structure your own work and decide what needs escalating. That suits people who are self-directed. It does not suit people who want to be managed closely.
Client procedures govern. Every client runs different procedures on different equipment, and you will adapt to theirs rather than the reverse. People who enjoy that variety do well here. People who want one system and one site do not.
The record matters more than the schedule. There will be moments where finishing on time and documenting honestly pull in opposite directions. We expect you to stop and raise it, every time, and we will back you when you do.
This Role Probably Isn't For You If
- Your background is computer system validation such as LIMS, SAP, Part 11, software assurance. Skilled work, but not this work
- Your validation experience is entirely process, cleaning or method validation with no equipment or capital project work
- You want a desk job, or a remote one
- You expect the technical resource on site to tell you what to do each day
- You would rather nod along than admit you have not followed a technical explanation
Where This Leads
This is a role with somewhere to go. C&Q Leads who develop the technical judgment and the client presence move toward Program Lead work, owning equipment delivery end to end and directing others. We would rather grow that person than hire them, and we will tell you plainly what the gap looks like.
Compensation And Benefits
$110,000 – $135,000 per year, depending on experience. The range is wide on purpose: it spans someone arriving with three years and real test case authorship, through someone considerably further along who could grow into program ownership.
We take a deliberately compensation-forward approach: we would rather pay you well in cash than route money through benefits you may or may not use. That is a real trade-off and you should hear it plainly rather than discover it at offer stage.
What that means today:
- Compensation set above market for the role, reflecting the lighter benefits package
- Up to $2,500 per employee toward an annual company retreat. 2026 is Cabo San Lucas.
- Unlimited paid time off, approved in advance. The conditions are practical rather than bureaucratic: tell us early enough that we can arrange client coverage, and don't schedule it on top of a commitment we've made to a client. Plan ahead and we will make it work
- No employer-sponsored health insurance or retirement plan at present
From 2027, we intend to offer access to health coverage and a retirement plan on an employee-funded basis. We will tell you where that stands during the process rather than making it sound more settled than it is.
If a full benefits package is what matters most to you, a large pharma site or an established consultancy will serve you better than we will, and we would rather say so now.
To Apply
We don't ask for a resume or a cover letter. Instead, please complete our career interest form. It takes about ten minutes, and it tells us more about what you have actually done than a resume would.
If a role is a fit, we will come back to you to arrange a conversation.
